SELF REFLECTION. How to Reach Your Work and Life Goals

Before you begin your annual goal-setting mission, it’s imperative to start with self-reflection. Why? Because if you don’t, you can blindly wander down this path called life wondering why things never change. You will  continue to live in a reality blind-spot, creating the same vicious circle and wondering why you’re in the exact same spot as last year. You will also fail to achieve anything extraordinarily new.

You need to take the time to reflect and acknowledge wins, experiences and learnings, so you can replicate those success building habits.  As seemingly insignificant as you may think this is (who has time to do a self reflection process anyway), you do great things every day! And that makes an impact on you, others and your company, which continually moves you forward.

Alternatively you must become self aware of the things that you want less of in life and work so you can take the steps to rectify this and get traction moving forward. Which brings us to the following exercises and questions to reflect upon and answer. This will become your starting point to ensure you stay on the right path to achieve what you want most in the New Year.

The Five Step Habit Building Process to Create an Extraordinary 2022

Write out all the things you are most grateful for this year

Yep, I’m really asking you to do this. It will put you in an abundant mindset for setting your dream goals for the New Year.

Next, list what you’re most proud of achieving this year

This includes activity, skill, results as well as a positive change in your mindset, attitude and thinking. Reflect on all your progress for the year to truly see how much you’ve achieved.

List the one or two challenges you’re still struggling with

What are you struggling with yet again? What do you want to overcome? What is the most important to you to change?

Master time management and energy givers/ drainers

How well are you mastering your routine and owning your day? What gives you energy and what drains you? How is this supporting you in achieving your goals? If you are not aware of this, something will get sacrificed, which is typically your own self-care.

Find an accountability partner

Who are you going to empower to be your accountability partner to achieve your goals? Family, friends, your manager or even better, your own personal coach?

Now you can design your strategy for goal-attainment, and identify the daily activities that are aligned with your goals, vision and priorities, which will ultimately be reflected in your daily routine. This will keep you focused on moving forward, while honoring what is most important to you.
