A WORD OF THE YEAR. Does it Matter?
Ready to make changes in 2021? I don’t know about you, but I love the concept of choosing a Word of the Year. I decided to give it a go because I'm a big believer in laser focus and clarity on what we want to create in our lives. It provides an anchor and encourages us to consciously (and subconsciously) consider this word of focus when making decisions of what we want more of and what we want to have less of in life. It provides a lens in which to look through when at a crossroads.
Here are a few ways to get you started.
Ask Yourself Some Tough Questions
Considering how this past year has been, what is something that you could improve on, do differently or keep working on?
What isn’t going so well in your life right now? What word is the opposite to this? For example, if fear is something that you’ve noticed, would courage be an area that you would like to focus on?
What do you want MORE of in your life?
What characteristics and behaviours would you like to embody?
·How do you want to feel?
Create a List
Spend 10-15 minutes creating a list of the words that come to mind, no self-editing! Just jot things down that come to mind.
Review and Refine
Review your list and narrow down your favorites by circling or highlighting three words. Chances are you’ll see a theme going on between the words you wrote down. What jumps out at you? What excites you? What scares you?
Focus
Now, take a look at what your intentions are this year. How will your Word of the Year come into play? How does it help you focus and make decisions that are in alignment with the way you want to feel and what you want to accomplish to guide you in the things that you do?
Your Word of the Year can describe the type of year you wish to have, and will act as a guidepost for the way you choose to live with intention.
What lens will you use to look through for 2021?
